Spatial Planning under the Conditions of Transition: The Example of Bosnia & Herzegovina, by Brankica Milojević
In the last ten years, the urban transformation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s towns was carried out under the influence of many a factor. Urban planning was adjusted to the needs of a society in transition, recognizing the role of the private ownership model, the participation of specialized experts, and the new role of urban planners. Western models, especially those of the US, looked for efficiency in the reform of the spatial arrangement, offering more freedom to developers through more flexible regulatory elements in zoning planning, but restricting thus the participation of urban planning specialists in the creation of space. This article defines new attitudes to planning under the conditions of transition, supporting the active participation of urban planners in the reform process, including the word they can have in the shaping of the relevant legislation.
Local Action Groups in the Czech Republic: the Example of the Region of South Moravia, by Pavel Fišer
The article offers basic information on the conditions for the operation of Local Action Groups (LAG) and their brief history in the Czech Republic. Their relation to the Leader Community initiative is mentioned in more detail, appreciating their role in spatial development. Also, a list of the LAGs in the Region of South Moravia is presented, informing about their activities and the cooperation with the authorities of the Region.
„Food deserts“ identified by the means of accessibility measures. Case study of the city of Bratislava, by František Križan & Katarína Danielová
This paper concentrates on the identification of food deserts in Bratislava by the means of accessibility measures of supermarkets and hypermarkets by the application of geographical information systems (GIS). The identification basis was presented by 6 accessibility measures analyzed in the public transport network. Selection of accessibility measures must correspond to the specified targets considering the absence of a complex accessibility measure.
Šternberk — A Project of Town Centre Regeneration and Revitalization, by Antonín Kostrůnek
A regeneration and revitalization project of an important part of the historic town centre of Šternberk was performed in 2005 and 2006. Divided in four stages, the project was aimed at a comprehensive revitalization of the town’s concourses and the renovation of their social and communal functions. The municipality had successfully applied for support from the Common Regional Operational Programme, so that more than two thirds of the project’s financing came from the EU funds, besides that from the government and the municipality.
