Switzerland’s Successful Efforts to Arrange Space, by Irena Šulcová
The extremely broken terrain has a significant impact on the use of space in Switzerland. As such, the Swiss example of economical use of space is highly interesting. Based on the changes in the settlement structure and the use of space, the article brings information on the system of spatial development and physical planning in this Alpine country. Selected examples attempt to compare Switzerland to the Czech Republic.

The involvement of foreign investors plays an important part in the development of the Czech economy, helping to solve some basic economic and social problems of various regions. One of the supportive tools to investments is incentives which include subsidies to municipalities for the preparation of industrial zones for developers. One of the most important development territories of the Region of Moravia-Silesia is the currently built industrial zone of Nošovice, listed in the 549 Government Decree, dated 29 May 2002, as one of a few strategic industrial zones of the Czech Republic. In May 2006, the South Korean company of Hyundai undersigned their entry in the Czech Republic, undertaking to construct a car factory in the industrial zone of Nošovice.
Jablonec nad Nisou’s Projects Supported by EU Funds, by Iveta Habadová
The Municipality of Jablonec nad Nisou is widely experienced in the procuration of finance from the EU funds. Thanks to the town’s position at the confines and a very good relationship with the German and Polish partners, a lot of projects in culture, sports, education and tourism could be materialized. Last year was no exception: some of the obtained means came from the pre-entry assistance subsidies (i.e. PHARE ), others arrived from the structural funds, such as the SROP and INTERREG IIIA programmes. The projects mentioned herebelow represent a total of EU subsidies of some € 5.6 million. Some projects within the mentioned programmes could receive state budget subsidies too, of a total of some € 0.6.
